In this module, students validate and apply more advanced principles of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to HVAC using the fundamentals of heat transfer, refrigeration, psychrometry and fluid flow. Students design an air-conditioning layout for medium size commercial building in one of various climatic locations for heating and cooling loads. They will utilize these loads to size a hydronics piping and air duct system including pump and fan power requirements. They will integrate these requirements in an overall building layout which will show the preliminary design of a building HVAC system including boilers, chillers, heat pumps, cooling towers, control valves, etc. They will practice these principles on lab equipment and solve problem sets.
