Power and Energy Systems

Students learn the concepts of power and energy conversion with a focus on electrical power. Students then focus on concepts of energy conversion and storage. Electromechanical generators including wind generators, solar and thermal generation are the key components. Energy storage, including a study of batteries, the selection of batteries and proper charging and discharging systems is emphasized. Also, power conversion from direct current to alternating current as well as line synchronization complements these topics.

In each case there will be a discussion of the physical concepts involved and all topics include a practical component.
